AFI Rentals has published its latest Carbon Footprint Report for Q2 2026, highlighting continued progress in reducing emissions across key areas of the business.
The latest report shows ongoing reductions in electricity use, gas consumption and business mileage, as we continue to focus on improving operational efficiency and reducing our environmental impact.
Continued reductions across energy use and business mileage
We have continued to reduce energy use across our property estate, with electricity consumption down 32% year-on-year and gas use down 25% year-on-year.
The business has reduced business mileage by 10% year-on-year, supported by a continued focus on efficiency and more flexible ways of working.
These reductions demonstrate the impact of our ongoing efforts to operate more efficiently across the depot network, offices and wider business operations.
Transport fuel remains the largest part of AFI’s carbon footprint
While reductions have been achieved across electricity, gas and business mileage, fuel use from the transport, engineering van and truck-mounted fleet remains by far the largest part of the company’s carbon footprint, accounting for more than 92% of total gross emissions.
As AFI continues to grow its Wilson Access business, pressure on fuel use remains high. Despite this, AFI Rentals has held total fuel use flat year-on-year.
As a result, AFI Rentals’ gross carbon footprint, measured on a location-based basis before offsetting, is 1% lower than 12 months ago.
The company’s market-based footprint, which accounts for green energy supply and the AFI Carbon Offsetting Scheme, has also reduced by 1% year-on-year.
Long-term emissions remain significantly lower
AFI Rentals’ market-based emissions remain 33% lower than in the pre-pandemic period. The company’s intensity ratio is also 15% lower, despite reduced turnover during the reporting period.

Carbon offsetting scheme reaches new milestone
We have now offset 1,570 tonnes of CO2 since launching the AFI Carbon Offsetting Scheme in 2023.
The scheme forms part of a wider sustainability strategy, helping to reduce the environmental impact linked to powered access hire while supporting certified carbon-reduction projects.
