AFI Rentals has strengthened its specialist infrastructure fleet with the arrival of a third Aspen A-62 underbridge unit, further increasing availability for bridge inspection, maintenance and repair projects across the UK.
The latest investment makes AFI Rentals the only company in the UK to own three Aspen underbridge units, reinforcing its position as one of the country's leading providers of specialist bridge access equipment.
The Aspen A-62 is AFI Rentals' flagship underbridge unit, designed to provide safe and efficient access to the underside of bridges, viaducts and elevated structures. With a working reach of up to 20 metres below bridge level, the machine enables inspection, maintenance, and repair work to be carried out while minimising disruption to surrounding infrastructure.
Meeting growing demand for specialist bridge access
Demand for specialist underbridge access equipment continues to grow as ageing transport infrastructure across the UK requires ongoing inspection, maintenance and refurbishment. This need is reflected in the Government's £1 billion Structures Fund, announced as part of the Department for Transport's Road Investment Strategy 3, which will support the repair and renewal of bridges, flyovers and tunnels across England. National Highways has already begun delivering the first bridge renewal projects through the programme.
By expanding its fleet, AFI Rentals is increasing machine availability for planned maintenance programmes, emergency works and major infrastructure projects throughout the UK.
The addition of a third Aspen A-62 also provides greater fleet resilience, enabling multiple projects to be supported simultaneously while maintaining high levels of service for customers.
Purpose-built for bridge inspection and maintenance
The Aspen A-62 underbridge unit is engineered specifically for infrastructure applications where conventional access methods may not be suitable. Its articulated access system allows operators to reach difficult areas beneath bridge decks safely and efficiently, making it ideal for:
• Bridge inspections
• Structural surveys
• Maintenance and repair works
• Highway infrastructure projects
• Rail and civil engineering applications
The machine can often reduce the need for more complex access solutions, helping projects progress efficiently while maintaining high safety standards.
Continued investment in specialist access equipment
The latest fleet addition forms part of AFI Rentals' ongoing investment in specialist powered access equipment, ensuring customers have access to modern, high-quality machines backed by nationwide support and technical expertise.
Whether supporting highways authorities, rail contractors, principal contractors or specialist bridge engineering companies, AFI Rentals continues to invest in equipment that enables infrastructure projects to be completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
