AFI Rentals continues to reduce carbon emissions | Q3 FY25

AFI Rentals has reported continued progress in reducing its carbon emissions, with the latest Q3 FY25 Carbon Footprint Report highlighting further year-on-year improvements in environmental performance.

The Q3 FY25 results reflect the impact of strategic estate consolidation, ongoing investment in efficient vehicles, and the continued support of customers participating in AFI’s carbon offsetting scheme.

Highlights from the Q3 FY25 report include:

•    Electricity emissions have reduced by more than 20% since the end of 2024 from moving out of some of our older less energy efficient properties, and ongoing replacement of lighting with LED alternatives.

•    “Grey fleet” mileage has reduced by 11% since the end of 2024 – a reduction of more than 100,000 annual miles travelled across our workforce, as we continue to use innovation and digital transformation to work more efficiently.

•    The largest part by far of our UK emissions continues to be from our roadgoing vehicle fleet, including the growing fleet of truck-mounted platforms in our Wilson Access division.  Future reductions in this area remain our biggest opportunity as engine technology moves forward. The investments we continue to make in new vehicles with ever more efficient engines will help to deliver underlying reductions over time.

•    Our overall gross “Location-Based” CO2 emissions remain c23% lower than the average of the 3 years before the COVID pandemic.

•    After taking account of AFI’s move to renewable energy tariffs some years ago and the benefit from AFI’s Carbon Offsetting Scheme, our net “Market-Based” CO2 emissions are 32% lower than the three-year period before the pandemic.

•    The total amount of CO2 offset since the Carbon Offsetting scheme was launched in Q3 2023 has now grown to almost 1,200 tonnes.

Paul Roberts, CFO at AFI, said:

"The continued reductions we are seeing in areas such as travel and property energy use demonstrate the progress achievable through disciplined measurement and targeted action. Sustainability is a long-term commitment, not a short-term initiative. Our responsibilities extend beyond financial performance, they include our impact on the environment, our people and the communities we serve."

AFI Rentals remains committed to further reducing its carbon footprint and supporting customers with sustainable access solutions across every sector.
