AFI Publishes 2026 Impact Report Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

What does the AFI 2026 Impact Report cover?

The AFI 2026 Impact Report explains how we approach Environmental, Social and Governance responsibilities, Corporate Social Responsibility and HSEQ+. It also maps our activities, policies, and programmes against all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, identifying the Goals our work contributes to most directly and areas where we can make further progress.

We have published our latest Impact Report, which provides an updated account of how we are working to reduce our environmental impact, support our employees and customers, promote safety, and act responsibly across our operations and supply chain. The report covers ESG, CSR, and our HSEQ+ strategy, bringing together our commitments to health and safety, the environment, quality, and broader social responsibility.

Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals

For the first time, the Impact Report includes a dedicated section that maps our CSR activities to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the Global Goals or SDGs.

The UN SDGs provide an internationally recognised framework for addressing issues including health, education, inequality, sustainable industry, responsible consumption and climate action.

Our report identifies where AFI’s current work makes its clearest contribution to the Goals. This includes our investment in lower-emission powered access equipment, renewable electricity, waste reduction, employee development, accredited safety training, responsible sourcing, innovation and support for local communities. The mapping does not suggest that AFI can achieve every Goal independently. Instead, it provides a framework to recognise our existing contribution, identify opportunities for improvement, and inform our future priorities.

Measuring and reporting our progress

The Impact Report highlights the practical action being taken across the Group, including:

  • A hire fleet that is already almost two-thirds battery-powered or hybrid
  • Renewable electricity tariffs at UK sites where we control the electricity supply
  • Quarterly reporting of Scope 1 and 2 energy use, carbon emissions and waste
  • Carbon offsets equivalent to more than 1.5 million kg of CO₂ since the launch of our Carbon Offsetting Pledge
  • The recycling of 96% of our hazardous waste and 98% of our general waste during 2025
  • Continued investment in apprenticeships, employee training, wellbeing and career development
  • Accredited working-at-height training and free machine familiarisation videos for the wider industry
  • Ethical sourcing, supplier assessment and responsible governance

The report also explains how we support customers in making safer, more sustainable equipment choices, while continuing to invest in the technology, equipment, and services needed to improve efficiency across our operations.

Continuing to improve

ESG and sustainability require continuous improvement. By publishing the Impact Report and mapping our activities against the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we provide greater transparency on our progress and the areas where further work is required.

We will continue to update our Impact Report as our HSEQ+ strategy develops and we introduce further measures to reduce our environmental impact, support our people, and contribute positively to the industries and communities in which we operate.
