What is a spider lift?

Like an actual spider, these track mounted MEWPs (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) have legs, can climb, and are incredibly useful! They come in a variety of reach heights, and the legs, coupled with the spider lift’s low weight, mean that they can service lots of sites that have technical restrictions.

If you need to find out about how to take your own site assessment, you can find out more about our site assessment course here.

Why should I buy a spider lift?

Spider MEWPs are exceptional machines. They have traveling widths of under a meter allowing access through doorways or gateways. They have low bearing pressure on sensitive floors and can be used inside fume free using the sites electrical supply. Their weight is sometimes as much as 1/3rd less than a conventional MEWP, making them ideal when used indoors, but they can also find lots of applications outdoors.

Not only this, but the spider’s external use is exceptional with the tracked chassis giving access to external elevations where general MEWPs cannot, such as where there are underground services limiting weight a spider can carry on. Working on grass can limit the standard heavier MEWPs whereas the lighter spiders can keep you working. They are also great at setting up on slopes where most MEWPs cannot. They are at home working with arborists in woodland with their on-board built-in engines as much as they are on tiled floors for atrium repairs.

Spider lifts can be maintained using one of our service plans, so you can keep them ship-shape, for when you do need to use them.

If you do use your machine often, buying a second-hand spider lift often works out cheaper than hiring one over extended periods of time. Coupled with a service plan, and these machines will keep on going, and going…
