The Benefits of UTN Training for Professional Development

UTN Training (a part of AFI Rentals) is an accredited IPAF and PASMA Working at Height training provider with 21 dedicated training centres throughout the United Kingdom. Through our excellent Health, Safety, and Skills training programs, we have helped thousands of operatives and managers working in the construction industry and the built environment with their professional development. Some of the main courses offered by UTN Training and their benefits are discussed below:

IPAF Training

IPAF training includes a range of internationally recognised courses developed and approved by the IPAF (International Powered Access Federation). These courses entail theoretical, practical, and technical elements required for the safe operation of different types of access platforms, such as construction hoists, scissor booms, mast climbing work platforms, etc. The training benefits professionals, like service technicians, installers, instructors, managers, supervisors, and employers whose line of work involves the use of powered access equipment. There are several IPAF training course categories available at UTN Training to suit different job roles within the powered access area, including –

  • IPAF PAV: Push around verticals (PAV)
  • IPAF 1a: Static Vertical - Vertical personnel platforms (static)
  • IPAF 1b: Static Boom – Spider booms, trailers, vehicle-mounted booms
  • IPAF 3a: Mobile Vertical - Scissor lifts, vertical personnel platforms (mobile)
  • IPAF 3b: Mobile Boom - Self-propelled booms

Additionally, there are many standalone IPAF training courses focused on specific areas or job roles, including Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP), MEWP’s for Managers (MM), Insulated Aerial Devices (IAD), Loading and Unloading (LOAD), and more. Completing IPAF training comes with many benefits. At UTN Training, we offer candidates a variety of training alternatives to choose from, including training centre based, by virtual classroom and on-site. We also offer IPAF e-learning/online courses that allow candidates to get industry accredited training around the clock from the comfort of their home.

During the training, they learn how to work at elevated heights safely by following the necessary work-related Health and Safety regulations. On successful completion of their course, they receive an IPAF PAL card which makes it easier for them to find work. During the training, they also learn –

  • Safe and efficient use of a platform
  • Correct use of harnesses and protection gear
  • Risk assessment
  • Emergency procedures
  • Potential Hazard recognition

PASMA Training

PASMA training is designed to equip workers with the skills and knowledge needed to use mobile access towers safely. As there is a variety of PASMA courses available, each covering a different type of tower, it is important to choose the right course when looking for PASMA training near me. During a standard PASMA course, candidates learn how to assemble, dismantle, re-assemble, and reposition towers on job sites. Furthermore, they also learn about the PASMA code of practice, hazard awareness, best practices for fall protection, etc.

PASMA Certification helps in the professional development of individuals by providing them with in-depth, theoretical and practical knowledge to stay safe when working at a height. As there is no better way to evaluate one’s knowledge in their field than through assessment, undergoing a practical and written assessment during PASMA training helps to know exactly where one stands as a professional working at elevating heights. This helps boost their CV and gives them a competitive edge over those who haven’t completed a relevant PASMA course.

At UTN Training, PASMA courses are delivered in small class sizes where candidates get personalised attention. Additionally, our training centres across the UK are regularly audited and courses are frequently amended as per PASMA (a nationally recognised governing body for mobile access tower safety & training) to include the latest practices. This helps ensure that every candidate who obtains a PASMA Certification through UTN Training is equipped with up-to-date knowledge.
